Bob Dylan Meets Pope Leo XIV During Italian Tour

In a remarkable encounter, legendary musician Bob Dylan visited Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican while on tour in Italy. The 85-year-old singer-songwriter was welcomed at the Apostolic Palace, where the two shared a brief moment filled with greetings and lighthearted exchanges.

During their meeting, the Pope presented Dylan with a rosary, a gesture that signifies peace and spirituality. In return, Dylan gifted the Pope a copy of his autobiography, Chronicles: Volume One, showcasing the mutual respect and admiration between the two cultural icons.

The Pope, known for his appreciation of music, particularly quoted Dylan’s lyrics in a recent publication. He referenced lines from Dylan’s unreleased 1963 protest song, Go Away You Bomb, in the preface of Disarmed and Disarming: Peace Is a Gift, a book by Italian journalist Alessandro Banfi. This connection highlights the enduring influence of Dylan’s music beyond the realm of rock.

This isn’t the first time a Pope has acknowledged Dylan’s work. In 1997, Pope John Paul II quoted the classic Blowin’ In The Wind during a speech to a massive crowd in Bologna, further cementing Dylan’s impact on both music and social issues.

Dylan is set to perform at the Palazzo dello Sport in Rome on November 5, with plans to continue his tour across Europe, including a series of ten dates in the UK later this month. Fans can look forward to seeing the iconic artist live as he continues to share his music with audiences around the world.
