Floor Jansen, the former lead singer of Nightwish, has drawn a poignant parallel between her recent departure from the band and the end of a romantic relationship. After 14 years with the iconic Finnish symphonic metal group, Jansen explained that she and her bandmates struggled to overcome challenging periods together, which ultimately led to their split.
In a recent interview, Jansen reflected on the dynamics of being in a band, likening it to the ups and downs of a personal relationship. She noted that while there can be moments of closeness, there are also times when distance grows, making it difficult to maintain a cohesive unit. “If you can no longer get through the more difficult periods together, then it is over,” she stated, emphasizing that the decision to part ways was not made lightly.
Nightwish announced their hiatus from live performances earlier this year, citing personal reasons for the break. Jansen’s exit was confirmed in a statement from the band on October 15, describing the decision as amicable and mutual. Following the announcement, Jansen expressed her gratitude to fans for their support and hinted at an exciting musical journey ahead.
Since leaving Nightwish, Jansen has embarked on a solo career, releasing her debut album, Paragon, in 2023. She is set to return with a follow-up album titled Hytress in January. Fans can currently enjoy her singles, including “Run,” “Bring Me Silence,” and “Everything Is Moving On,” which are available for streaming.
Looking ahead, Jansen will hit the stage with her solo band starting January 14 in Antwerp, Belgium, and will conclude her European tour on February 13 in Tilburg, Netherlands. Additionally, she has plans for a South American tour in April and May. Meanwhile, Nightwish has not announced any live dates, but founding member Tuomas Holopainen has hinted at a potential return to the stage in 2028.
