Phil Collins has opened up about the one factor keeping him from hitting the road again, and surprisingly, it’s not his health. In a recent interview, the legendary musician revealed that while he has both completed and unfinished musical projects, the thought of touring again is complicated by practical considerations.
As Collins prepares for his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist, he reflected on his long career and the challenges of stepping away from the stage. He noted that after a lifetime of performing, the idea of retiring feels bittersweet. “When you’ve been on stage all your life, it’s difficult to stop,” he said, acknowledging that he occasionally entertains the thought of touring again.
However, Collins emphasized that embarking on a tour for just a handful of shows wouldn’t be financially viable. He sees his upcoming induction as a fitting conclusion to his illustrious career, describing it as a “lovely way to end it.” He expressed contentment with his current lifestyle, enjoying the freedom of not having to adhere to a rigorous touring schedule.
Despite feeling ready to create again, Collins has a studio set up at home that he hasn’t fully utilized. He mentioned having numerous ideas and projects that are either complete or in progress, leaving the door open for future musical endeavors. Reflecting on his past, Collins acknowledged how his solo success positively influenced Genesis, expanding their audience and keeping the drive for creativity alive.
As he approaches this milestone, Collins shared his excitement about the honor of being inducted into the Rock Hall, especially after Genesis was inducted 16 years ago. He expressed pride in sharing this moment with his children, emphasizing how special it is to have their support as he receives this prestigious award.
