Irving, Texas – Senior Anthony Rotich and junior Sven Zellner were named to the Conference USA Track and Field All-Academic team. 22 total athletes (11 men and 11 women) were recognized on Wednesdayby C-USA.
Athletes must have at least a 3.2 GPA and contribute in some form to their teams success.
This is the second time in Rotich’s illustrious career that he has been named to this team. The Kenyan native holds a 3.29 GPA in multidisciplinary studies. Rotich has had a stellar senior campaign. He was named a First Team All-American for a third-place finish in the indoor mile at the NCAA Championships. He also garnered High Point
Scorer of the Meet at the indoor and outdoor Conference USA Championships. In the outdoor season, he ran the third-fastest 5,000m time at the Stanford Invitational with a time of 13:31.59.
Zellner is a first time recipient of this award. The junior hurdler maintains a steady 3.81 GPA in mechanical engineering. During the indoor circuit, he collected the tenth-fastest C-USA 60m hurdle time with an 8.31 at the Lobo Collegiate Open. In outdoors, he collected two first-place finishes in the 110m hurdles at the UTEP Springtime (14.53) and UTEP Twilight (14.56). At the Conference USA Outdoor Championships, he earned the Orange and Blue four points with a fifth-place finish in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.55.
Rotich’s season is still going and he will run the 3,000m steeplechase this weekend at the NCAA West Preliminaries in hopes of winning his third straight national championship.
